Frequently asked questions

Below are some of the most popular questions I get asked as a magician.

What is close-up magic?

Close-up magic is performed only a few feet, sometimes inches, away from an audience. A close-up magician will interact with their audience using things like playing cards, coins, borrowed objects such as rings and banknotes. Sometimes mind-reading - or mentalism as it's known in the magic world - is also performed as part of a close-up magic routine. By involving the audience, a good close-up magician will make them feel like a part of the magic too.

How far do you travel?

I perform magic all around the UK. Please complete the enquiry form below or give me a call on +44 (0)7894 103864 for a quote.

Can I meet you in advance to see if you're right for our event?

I live in Watford, Hertfordshire. If you are based within a 10 mile radius of Watford or live in Central London, we should be able to arrange a 20 minute meeting where I can show you some of the magic I perform, and discuss requirements for your event. Just complete the "free demonstration" form here.

When is the best time for a magician to perform at a wedding?

There are several sections throughout the day that are enhanced by having a magician perform for wedding guests:

Photographs

Whilst photographs are being taken after the wedding ceremony there is an ideal opportunity for those waiting around to be entertained with some close-up magic.

Drinks Reception

As guests take celebratory sips of champagne, I amaze them with close-up magic as I mingle amongst them.

Wedding Breakfast

I perform in between courses, circulating each table until I finish at the top table where I perform a special trick for the bride and groom. When performing during the wedding breakfast, it is also common for me to perform at the drinks reception beforehand as well.

What is the maximum number of guests you perform for?

I generally perform for between 30-100 guests for a maximum duration of two and a half hours. When performing for in excess of 100 guests, I know several other excellent magicians who I can call upon, so if you need two or three of us, we can cover more ground together, meaning more guests get to see more magic.

How much do you charge?

Essentially, there are three things I need to know in order to give you the best possible quote:

  • Venue location
  • Number of guests
  • Duration

Don't worry if you are unsure of the duration as I can work this out based on the number of guests to ensure that the majority, if not all, get to see and take part in some magic.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

I will require a 50% deposit within three months of the event date. If the event is taking place sooner than three months, the deposit is required with seven days of the invoice.

Are your prices negotiable?

The price you are quoted is a reflection of the years of dedication and experience of hundreds of past performances it has taken to become an accomplished magician. For this reason I do not generally negotiate on price. If you are keen to book me and you have a strict budget to stick to, I may be able to offer a reduced rate, but this comes at the cost of either certain types of tricks being omitted from my performance or performing for a shorter duration. If you are on a fixed budget, call me on +44 (0)7894 103864 to see what we can make work for you.

What type of events do you perform at?

Essentially, I can perform at most events where there is a gathering of twenty or more people. Below is a list of the most common types of events I perform at.

  • Weddings
  • Corporate banquets
  • Cocktail parties
  • Trade shows
  • Product launches
  • Birthday parties
  • Wedding anniversaries
  • Christmas parties
  • Christenings
  • Bar Mitzvahs
  • Garden parties
  • New Year parties
  • Fund raisers
  • Office parties

Do you perform magic for children?

I always carry a couple of tricks for children, but the majority of my routines are aimed at adults. If there are going to be an abundance of children at your event, I can recommend a couple of excellent children's entertainers.

What if you are ill and unable to attend our event?

I have never missed or had to cancel an event. In the unlikely event that I cannot attend, I have a network of some excellent magicians who I can rely upon to perform on my behalf. If I or one of the magicians I know cannot attend your event, you will be refunded in full.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes, I am insured for up to £10,000,000.
